Solid State Logic PureDrive Quad: Four SSL Preamps with Fine Gain Control

The Solid State Logic PureDrive Quad is a 4-channel microphone preamplifier that pairs SSL's PURE DRIVE preamp architecture with flexible digital I/O in a 1U rack. Four Preamps with Clean and Drive Modes

The Quad provides four PURE DRIVE preamps, each with a Clean mode plus Classic Drive and Asymmetric Drive harmonic characters. A preamp lifts a microphone's weak signal to line level, and its harmonic behavior shapes the tone of every recording made through it. Clean mode stays transparent and faithful, Classic Drive adds symmetrical harmonic warmth, and Asymmetric Drive produces a different, more even-order harmonic flavor for added character. Precise Stepped Gain with 1 dB Trim

Each channel offers up to +65 dB of stepped gain combined with a 31-stage trim that adjusts level in fine 1 dB increments. Stepped gain provides fixed, repeatable settings so channels recall identically, while the additional 1 dB trim allows exact fine-tuning between the steps. This two-stage approach gives both the recall precision of stepped gain and the fine control usually reserved for continuous pots, ideal for matching a stereo pair exactly. Impedance, Filtering, and Polarity Options

Every channel includes four selectable input impedance options, a per-channel high-pass filter, switchable 48V phantom power, and a polarity invert switch. The high-pass filter clears low-frequency rumble, independent phantom power feeds condensers channel by channel, and polarity invert corrects phase when miking a source from two sides. Digital Outputs and Cascade to Eight Channels

The Quad provides AES/EBU and ADAT outputs plus an ADAT LINK IN that lets two units combine into a single 8-channel digital stream. ADAT is an optical format carrying multiple channels on one cable, and the LINK IN passes a second Quad's channels through so both appear on one ADAT output to an interface. Running four channels at 24-bit/48 kHz, a single Quad expands an interface by four inputs, and a cascaded pair expands it by eight. This scalable digital connectivity makes the Quad easy to grow with a studio's needs.

Onboard USB Soundcard

An onboard USB soundcard lets the Quad record its four channels directly to a computer, and its digital outputs can also be fed from the DAW. This built-in interface means the Quad can serve as a complete recording front end with no separate audio interface required. Because the digital outs accept a return from the computer, the unit can also route DAW playback back out through its digital connections.
