Zoom ECM-6: Maximum Reach for a Zoom Capsule
The Zoom ECM-6 is a 6-meter (19.7-foot) mic capsule extension cable for placing a Zoom interchangeable capsule almost twenty feet from its host recorder. It solves the same problem as the shorter ECM-3 but at more than twice the distance, which is what you want when the recorder sits at a mix position and the microphone has to reach across a stage or up into a room. Both ends carry Zoom's locking capsule mount, so the capsule keeps every function it has on the body, from gain to monitoring. For a recordist who needs real separation between mic and machine, this is the longer of Zoom's two capsule cables.
Reach the Places a Short Cable Cannot
Nearly twenty feet opens up mic positions a 9.8-foot cable simply cannot serve: an overhead capsule on a tall stand, a mic at the far edge of an ensemble, or a POV head several body-lengths from the operator. The included action-camera-style bracket handles the mounting so the capsule can ride a pole, a cage, or a boom. A run-and-gun videographer can leave the recorder on a cart and still get the capsule where the sound lives. It is the accessory that turns a compact recorder into a properly staged capture rig.
Confirm Fit Before You Buy
Like any capsule cable, the ECM-6's value is entirely in what it fits, so check the generation first. It is made for Zoom's first-generation Capsule System 1.0 input capsules, including the XYH-6, MSH-6, SSH-6 and SGH-6, running on the H5, H6, Q8, U-44, F1, F4, F8 and F8n. It will not work with the V2.0 H8 capsules — the XAH-8, EXH-8 and VRH-8. If your capsule and recorder are on that supported list, the ECM-6 gives you the longest factory reach Zoom offers.
