The Rode PG2-R is a professional pistol grip shock mount for shotgun microphones, suspending the mic in twin webbed cradles so it can be carried by hand or on a boompole without transferring vibration to the capsule. It replaces the rigid clip that comes with most shotgun mics with a true suspension system, a locking angle adjustment, and routed cable management, all built into a cushioned handle that weighs just 7.9 oz (224 g). For the boom operator and the run-and-gun shooter, it is the difference between clean dialogue and a track ruined by handling rumble.
A shotgun microphone is extremely sensitive along its length, which means it also hears the low-frequency thumps and rustle that travel up a hand or a boompole. The PG2-R breaks that path with two elasticated webbed cradles that hold the microphone in tension rather than clamping it to the frame. Because the mic is mechanically decoupled from the grip, footsteps, grip adjustments, and cable movement are absorbed before they can reach the capsule and turn into rumble. The result is a signal that carries the voice and the ambience you want, not the vibration of the operator holding the rig.
Shotgun microphones vary widely in length, from compact camera-top models to long interference-tube designs, and a poorly balanced mic tires the operator and drifts off aim. The PG2-R offers four mounting-point positions so you can slide the microphone forward or back until its center of gravity sits over the handle. A heavy-duty locking nut on the side then fixes the chosen angle, so once the mic is aimed at the subject it stays there through take after take. Balanced and locked, the rig feels lighter in the hand and holds its aim without constant correction.
The base of the PG2-R carries a standard 3/8-inch thread, the size used by boompoles and microphone stands, so the same grip works across every mounting scenario a production throws at it. Hold it as a pistol grip for run-and-gun documentary and interview work, thread it onto a boompole for scripted dialogue coverage, or drop it on a stand for a static setup. An integrated cable channel and clip route the output cable flush along the handle, keeping it clear of the frame and free of the snags that cause noise or a dropped connection.
This is the grip for filmmakers, boom operators, location-sound recordists, and documentary and ENG shooters who mount a shotgun microphone and cannot afford handling noise on the track. It fits Rode shotgun and compact condenser microphones including the NTG1, NTG2, NTG3, NTG4, and NTG4+, as well as the M5, NT5, and NT55, giving one grip that follows your kit from a camera-top setup to a full boom rig. If your dialogue has to be broadcast-clean the first time, the PG2-R is the mount that protects it.
