The Rode NT45-C is an interchangeable cardioid condenser capsule for the Rode NT4, NT5, NT5-MP, NT55, NT55-MP and NT6 microphones. Built around a gold-sputtered half-inch diaphragm, it is the same focused cardioid head that ships on those pencil mics, offered on its own as a spare, a replacement or a way to standardize the pattern across a set. How Interchangeable Capsules Work
Rode's NT-series pencil microphones separate the acoustic capsule from the body, which houses the preamplifier electronics. The capsule simply threads onto the body, so the same mic can wear either a cardioid head like the NT45-C or an omnidirectional head, and its polar pattern changes accordingly. Because the capsule carries the diaphragm that actually turns sound into an electrical signal, swapping it changes both the directionality and the character of the microphone -- without buying a whole new mic. The NT45-C restores or provides the cardioid option in that system.
