The Rode DeadCat VMPR is an artificial-fur windshield built for the VideoMic Pro fitted with the Lyre suspension, taming the outdoor wind noise that leaves the stock foam windscreen behind. It pulls over the microphone and wraps the capsule in a dense layer of acoustically transparent synthetic pile, intercepting moving air before it reaches the diaphragm. For any shooter who takes a VideoMic Pro outside, it is the difference between clean, usable audio and a track buried under low-frequency roar.
Why Fur Beats Foam When the Wind Comes Up
Wind noise is turbulence, not distant sound: it is air physically striking and rushing past the diaphragm, generating chaotic low-frequency pressure the microphone reads as rumble.
