Neumann EA 170: Reference-Grade Suspension for the TLM 170 R
The Neumann EA 170 is an elastic suspension shock mount engineered for the TLM 170 R and Neumann's tube flagships, the M 149 Tube and M 150 Tube. Spider-style rubber bands hold the microphone in a floating cradle that decouples it from the stand, so footfalls, traffic rumble, and vibration traveling up a boom never reach the diaphragm. On a switchable-pattern reference mic used for orchestral, choral, and room capture, that isolation protects the low end of demanding acoustic sources. The larger cradle is dimensioned specifically to these tall Neumann bodies.
Set the Angle and Leave It
A swivel mount tilts the microphone into position over a string section or above a drum kit and locks the angle securely in the suspension. The 5/8-inch-27 female thread mounts to standard studio booms and stands, and the included adapter steps down to 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch studs. The mic loads and unloads without tools. Once set for a room, the EA 170 holds its aim through the session.
Where the EA 170 Fits
Choose the nickel EA 170 for a nickel TLM 170 R, M 149 Tube, or M 150 Tube in a mastering-grade room or on a scoring stage. The matte-black EA 170 MT serves the same mics where a lit set or camera calls for a non-reflective finish. For the smaller TLM-series bodies, the EA 1 and EA 4 are the correct mounts.
