AVMatrix SE1217: Direct HDMI-to-IP Streaming Without a Computer

The AVMatrix SE1217 is an H.265/H.264 HDMI-to-IP streaming encoder that converts any HDMI camera, console, or computer output into a network live stream at up to 1080p60. It is the plug-in-and-go path from an HDMI source to the internet, replacing a fragile software chain with a single reliable box. For creators and AV teams who just want the stream to stay up, it removes the computer as a point of failure.

How the HDMI Encoder Works

The SE1217 accepts a standard HDMI Type-A input plus a 3.5mm analog audio input, then compresses the signal in real time using H.265 (HEVC) or H.264 before sending it over Gigabit Ethernet. HEVC's efficiency means you can hold 1080p quality at a lower bitrate than H.264 requires, which is decisive on limited upload links. Because encoding happens in dedicated silicon rather than on a PC, latency stays low and the unit runs unattended for days.

Bitrate Control and Dual-Stream Flexibility

A standout of the SE1217 is its unusually wide adjustable bitrate, from 16 kbit/s all the way to 60 Mbit/s, letting you dial in razor-thin bandwidth for a weak connection or near-mezzanine quality on a fast one. Dual-stream operation outputs a high-quality main stream and a lighter sub stream simultaneously, so one feed can go to a CDN while another goes to a monitoring tool or a second platform at reduced resolution.

Compatible With the Platforms You Use

RTMP and RTMPS make the SE1217 compatible with YouTube, Facebook, and similar services, while SRT provides resilient low-latency contribution across the public internet, and RTSP/RTP/HTTP/UDP cover IPTV, venue multicast, and integration. HDMI loop-out feeds a confidence monitor or downstream recorder, and built-in image and text overlay plus mirror/flip let you brand and correct the stream without extra gear, all from a compact metal chassis.

Where the SE1217 Fits

The SE1217 is ideal for live-streaming an HDMI camera or switcher output to social platforms, for IP contribution into conferencing and venue systems, for IPTV and multicast distribution, and for remote streaming over SRT on unstable networks. Streamers, houses of worship, schools, and corporate AV teams choose it as an accessible, dependable, computer-free HDMI encoder.
