Arturia warrants Arturia hardware products, when purchased from an authorized Arturia retailer located in the USA, to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of Two (2) Years from the original date of purchase. Arturia will repair Arturia hardware products found to be defective within that period, at its sole option, without charge for parts or labor provided its failure resulted from a defect in material or workmanship.

Arturia BeatStep Features:

  • 16 VELOCITY- AND PRESSURE-SENSITIVE PADS - trigger drums and samples with dynamics, then switch modes to sequence patterns note by note
  • 16 ASSIGNABLE ROTARY ENCODERS - map every knob to a MIDI CC in CNTRL mode or dial in per-step pitch in SEQ mode
  • DUAL CNTRL AND SEQ MODES - one compact surface works as a hands-on MIDI controller and as a 16-step hardware sequencer
  • CV/GATE/CLOCK OUTPUTS - drive analog and modular synths directly, no computer required in the signal path
  • 16 STORABLE SEQUENCES - save and recall patterns internally so your ideas travel with the unit
  • CLASS-COMPLIANT USB, BUS-POWERED - plug-and-play with any DAW over a single cable, ready in seconds

Arturia BeatStep: A 16-Pad Step Sequencer and MIDI Controller in One Palm-Sized Deck

The Arturia BeatStep is a compact 16-pad step sequencer and USB MIDI controller that pairs 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads with 16 assignable rotary encoders in a single palm-sized deck. It works two ways at the flip of a switch: a CNTRL mode that turns it into a hands-on controller for any DAW or plugin, and a SEQ mode that becomes a 16-step sequencer for driving drums, basslines, and analog gear. Bus-powered over USB and equipped with MIDI and CV/Gate/Clock outputs, it slips into a backpack yet anchors a whole desktop rig. For producers who want to step away from the mouse and shape music with their hands, it is the small box that keeps sparking ideas long after the novelty wears off.

Sixteen Velocity- and Pressure-Sensitive Pads

The BeatStep centers on 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads that glow red in controller mode and blue in sequencer mode. Velocity reads how hard you strike each pad and sets its loudness, while pressure sensitivity adds continuous modulation after the initial hit for expressive, evolving hits. The color coding makes the active mode obvious at a glance, so you never lose track of what the pads are doing. Musicians use them to finger-drum grooves into drum software with real dynamics instead of flat, mechanical triggers.

Two Modes: CNTRL Controller and SEQ Step Sequencer

A single switch flips the BeatStep between CNTRL controller mode and SEQ step-sequencer mode. A step sequencer lays out up to 16 steps in a row and loops them back, each step firing a note or trigger, the foundation of drum machines and acid basslines since the 1980s, while controller mode instead sends live MIDI note and CC data. Having both means you can program a repeating pattern in SEQ and then flip to CNTRL to play a synth by hand. One compact device therefore covers both writing parts and performing them.

Sixteen Assignable Rotary Encoders

Sixteen endless rotary encoders can be mapped to MIDI CC in controller mode or to step pitch in sequencer mode. Endless encoders have no fixed start or end, so they pick up any parameter's current value without sudden jumps, and in SEQ mode each one tunes the pitch of its step while in CNTRL mode each sends a continuous controller message. Assign them to filter cutoff, resonance, and send levels for tactile mixing, or tune a 16-step melody knob by knob. This is hands-on control for anyone tired of drawing automation with a mouse.

CV/Gate and Clock Outputs for Analog and Modular Gear

Onboard CV, Gate, and Clock outputs let the BeatStep drive analog and modular synths without a computer in the chain. CV (control voltage) sends pitch as a varying voltage while Gate sends on/off triggers, the pre-MIDI language that Eurorack and vintage synths still speak, and the clock output keeps external sequencers and drum machines locked to the same tempo. That means you can sequence a standalone modular rack or a vintage mono synth straight from the pads. It effectively bridges the computer and hardware worlds in both live and studio setups.

Class-Compliant USB, Bus Power, and Onboard Storage

The BeatStep connects over class-compliant, bus-powered USB and stores 16 recallable sequences internally. Class-compliant means the operating system recognizes it with no driver install, and bus power means the USB connection alone runs the unit, so there is no wall adapter to carry. Sixteen sequences live in internal memory, so your patterns survive a power-down and load again instantly. Plug into a laptop at a cafe or a modular rig on stage and start working in seconds, which makes it a natural first hardware sequencer for beginners and a travel-ready tool for pros.
