2-Channel Low-Impedance Power Amplifier, 200 W RMS per Channel at 8 Ohms, 280 W RMS at 4 Ohms, 560 W Bridged Mono, XLR TRS and Terminal Block Inputs, Binding Post Outputs, SmartFan Adaptive Cooling, Tamper-Resistant Faceplate, 1U
The ART SLA2 is a two-channel low-impedance power amplifier rated at 200 W RMS per channel into 8 ohm, 280 W RMS into 4 ohm and 560 W bridged into a single 8 ohm load. Low impedance means it connects directly to ordinary 4 and 8 ohm loudspeakers through binding posts, rather than feeding a 70 V or 100 V constant-voltage line of the kind used to spread background music across dozens of ceiling speakers. Doubling the power of its smaller stablemate without growing beyond one rack space is the whole point of the design. For a club, a worship space or a school hall, that means real PA-level output from a rack position that would otherwise hold a patchbay.
Every channel accepts balanced XLR, 1/4 in TRS and a detachable terminal-block connection. Terminal blocks matter in permanent installations because the wiring can be prepared and tested before the amplifier is ever racked, and because a screw-down connection cannot be pulled out by someone tidying cables behind a rack. XLR and TRS suit portable systems and studio use where cables get changed regularly. Offering all three means the same amplifier model can be specified for a touring rack and a fixed installation without anyone having to adapt a connector on site.
Frequency response covers 10 Hz to 40 kHz within 0.5 dB, total harmonic distortion is 0.05 percent typical at 1 kHz into 4 ohm, and hum and noise sit more than 100 dB below clipping. A response extending well past the audible range matters chiefly for phase behaviour inside it, since an amplifier that rolls off at 20 kHz has already begun shifting phase in the top octave where cymbals and sibilance live. A noise floor 100 dB below clipping means that with the amplifier idling and the room silent, nothing audible comes out of the loudspeakers. Distortion measured into 4 ohm rather than 8 ohm is the harder test, because the lower impedance demands more current from the output stage.
Cooling adapts continuously to internal temperature, and the two channels can be bridged into a single 560 W mono output. Adaptive cooling means the fan is barely audible during a quiet passage and only spins up when the amplifier is actually generating heat, which is what allows a 200 W per channel design to live in an occupied room rather than a closet. Bridging turns both output stages into one, driving a loudspeaker with a much larger voltage swing, which is the standard way of powering a single subwoofer from a stereo amplifier. A portable system running tops from a powered speaker and a sub from a bridged SLA2 is a very common and very compact arrangement.
A tamper-resistant faceplate, a toroidal transformer and per-channel signal, clip and thermal protection LEDs sit in an all-steel 1U chassis. Tamper resistance exists because in a school, a bar or a house of worship the amplifier will be within reach of people who should not be adjusting it, and a faceplate that discourages casual fiddling prevents a great many support calls. The toroidal transformer keeps stray magnetic radiation low, which matters when an amplifier is racked directly beneath microphone preamplifiers or a mixing console. Status LEDs on each channel make fault-finding a matter of looking rather than testing.
Bars and small clubs, houses of worship with passive mains, gymnasiums and multipurpose halls, and studios that want genuine headroom on passive monitors all fall inside the SLA2's range. A venue running a pair of 4 ohm main speakers gets 280 W a side, which is enough for speech and recorded music across a full room. An installer specifying a rack for a community centre gets terminal-block wiring, a tamper-resistant front and a single rack space for the amplification. The same chassis serves a mobile system on Saturday and a fixed install on Monday without any change in approach.
